So, what’s it like on a Workshop?

Who will be there?

Our workshops are an informal coming-together of women who want to know more about the menopause, led by a Menopause Support Advisor.

What experience and training do Menopause Support Advisors have?

Our advisors have completed comprehensive training on the Menopause Support Programme and each has her own personal menopause experience. They have extensive experience of working with, and supporting, women through the many transitions in a woman's life. Each Advisor has her own individual style, so it is important you read the words they have written and find the one that suits you. Whoever you choose all our advisors aim to help you restore your sense of purpose, self-esteem, energy and confidence during this time in your life.

Will everybody be old and grey?

For many the preconception of a group of menopausal women would be a bunch of 'grey haired old ladies sitting together. You're probably thinking that's not for you. Let us reassure you most of the women who come on our workshops are between the ages of 45-55 and, although some may have grey hair, that doesn't make them any less fun!

Will the group be big?

Workshops are for small groups of women (a maximum of 14). The small numbers mean that there is a relaxed, supportive atmosphere and plenty of humour!

Will I have to talk about me?

Not if you don't want to. Everyone can get as involved as much as they want and no one is made to talk about anything they don't feel comfortable about. All workshops are confidential - "what's said in the room, stays in the room."

How am I going to remember it all?

A workshop is based around the Menopause Support Journal, a concise collection of all the facts presented in an easy to understand logical format. The Journal is intended to guide women through topics such as nutrition, exercise, relaxation, feelings, emotions and lifestyle changes, empowering them to make positive changes, progressing towards the next chapter of their lives. Everyone attending will get their own copy of the Journal.

Do I have to sit still all day?

Not if you don't want to! The workshop is interactive with motivational exercises, lots of time to chat with other women and plenty of opportunities to try out new products, including a myriad of healthy teas, alternative foods, skin care and cooling products..

Who set all this up?

Menopause Support, a not-for-profit organisation, was set up by Heather Fairbairn. Heather experienced a very tricky menopause and wanted to find natural alternatives to HRT. With her background in Science and Complementary Health, Heather became determined to help other women find the information that she had struggled to locate. Putting it all together, researching it for its integrity and designing the Journal has been the result of all her hard work.

Still not sure?

We hope that this helps to allay your fears about attending a workshop, although if you are still not sure try reading this testimonial:

Rachel, from Chard says "I now have some certainty and confidence that I am not going mad and that it will all be alright! I have stopped eating wheat and I feel much clearer mentally - I can remember people's names which is such a relief! I feel liberated. I really liked the exercise to help implant the decisions made on the day regards changes which we hoped to make."
