HRT Research

is complex and the results confusing but as a consequence, since the mid 2000s, HRT is given to fewer women, in lower doses, for a shorter time. The NHS guidance is HRT should be taken by women with early menopause (before 45) until 52 and those whose life is adversely affected by menopausal symptoms.

There is no evidence that HRT maintains 'youthful' looks. HRT does not stop your body going through the menopause - it only helps with the symptoms. HRT overrides what your body is naturally trying to do, to reduce your female hormone levels.

The oestrogen used in HRT is produced in laboratories from various sources, such as cacti, mare's urine, soya and yams, and is considered to be chemically identical to the body's version but not 'bio-identical'. Synthetic progesterone ('progestogen') in HRT is made from yams, soya and sisal.
