By about 70, the decrease in a man’s testosterone level can be as much as 50%.<span style=”mso-spacerun: yes;”> But the drop is gradual over the years and not the same dramatic drop that women experience with the female hormones – oestrogen and progesterone at menopause.
<p class=”MsoNormalCxSpMiddle” style=”margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt 36pt;”><span style=”font-size: small;”>
<p class=”MsoNormalCxSpMiddle” style=”margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt 36pt;”><span style=”font-size: small;”>The symptoms though can be debilitating namely poor sleep patterns, a reduced sexual function and drive, reduced muscle tone and increasing body fat, decreased energy and confidence.<span style=”mso-spacerun: yes;”> All sounds pretty familiar to me – just like the menopause – so not really surprising that it’s a real challenge to keep a close, loving relationship going through this period of our lives.<span style=”mso-spacerun: yes;”>
<p class=”MsoNormalCxSpMiddle” style=”margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt 36pt;”><span style=”font-size: small;”>
<p class=”MsoNormalCxSpMiddle” style=”margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt 36pt;”><span style=”font-size: small;”>The Men’s page under the Support section on the website <span style=”font-size: small;”>www.menopausesupport.org.uk<span style=”font-size: small;”> is a good insight and I hope it helps.
<p class=”MsoNormalCxSpMiddle” style=”margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt 36pt;”><span style=”font-size: small;”>
http://www.menopausesupport.org.uk/blog/post/2010/08/06/Male-menopause-true-or-false.aspx Susannehttp://www.menopausesupport.org.uk/blog/post/2010/08/06/Male-menopause-true-or-false.aspx#commenthttp://www.menopausesupport.org.uk/blog/post.aspx?id=06a0b2c2-ec8a-4a0b-9dc0-aa5cfbfbae56Fri, 06 Aug 2010 12:14:00 -0400Susannehttp://www.menopausesupport.org.uk/blog/pingback.axdhttp://www.menopausesupport.org.uk/blog/post.aspx?id=06a0b2c2-ec8a-4a0b-9dc0-aa5cfbfbae560http://www.menopausesupport.org.uk/blog/trackback.axd?id=06a0b2c2-ec8a-4a0b-9dc0-aa5cfbfbae56http://www.menopausesupport.org.uk/blog/post/2010/08/06/Male-menopause-true-or-false.aspx#commenthttp://www.menopausesupport.org.uk/blog/syndication.axd?post=06a0b2c2-ec8a-4a0b-9dc0-aa5cfbfbae56Believe the future is a positive place<p class=”MsoNormalCxSpFirst” style=”margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt 36pt;”><span style=”font-size: small;”>Did anyone else see The ‘Body & Soul’ section in the Times newspaper this weekend?<span style=”mso-spacerun: yes;”> If not, you missed a gem but here’s the gist – the front cover had a wonderful, glamorous picture of Diane von Furstenberg, 63, the fashion designer with the words ‘Super Sixities. It hasn’t even started yet’
<p class=”MsoNormalCxSpMiddle” style=”margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt 36pt;”><span style=”font-size: small;”>
<p class=”MsoNormalCxSpMiddle” style=”margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt 36pt;”><span style=”font-size: small;”>Inside there were several inspirational articles about women (and men) who are fully embracing life in their 60s with a positive yet realistic attitude to the ageing process.
<p class=”MsoNormalCxSpMiddle” style=”margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt 36pt;”><span style=”font-size: small;”>
<p class=”MsoNormalCxSpMiddle” style=”margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt 36pt;”><span style=”font-size: small;”>Diane von Furstenberg says, ‘I’m having the most fun I’ve ever had in my life with my work.<span style=”mso-spacerun: yes;”> Maybe because I’m more confident.<span style=”mso-spacerun: yes;”> Maybe because I have more clarity. and I was really pleased to see how much better she was looking, enjoying life and full of energy.<span style=”mso-spacerun: yes;”> When I asked her whether she had made any changes since she came to Menopause Support – she replied enthusiastically ‘yes and she was feeling so much more confident about life now’ but also (rather more thoughtfully)- ‘she couldn’t exactly put her finger on which of the changes she’d made since the workshop, had made the most difference.’
<p class=”MsoNormalCxSpMiddle” style=”margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt 36pt;”><span style=”font-size: small;”>
<p class=”MsoNormalCxSpMiddle” style=”margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt 36pt;”><span style=”font-size: small;”>Like her, I have made lots of little changes to the way I live my ‘day to day’ life.<span style=”mso-spacerun: yes;”> For example, I certainly go to bed a lot earlier these days (particularly if I’ve had a run of bad nights) and I’m more careful with what I eat and drink (much less caffeine and more nuts and seeds rather than the chocolate bars).<span style=”mso-spacerun: yes;”> But which of the many changes I’ve made has helped the most is difficult to say – I believe it’s a combination of all of them.
<p class=”MsoNormalCxSpMiddle” style=”margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt 36pt;”><span style=”font-size: small;”>
<p class=”MsoNormalCxSpMiddle” style=”margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt 36pt;”><span style=”font-size: small;”>This is a difficult concept, when we are so used to believing there should be a ‘single magic bullet’ to make us feel better – as when you go to your GP and get a ‘pill’ that fixes the problem.<span style=”mso-spacerun: yes;”> But I think, particularly at this time of change in women’s lives, it’s a really good time to reflect and take stock of all the areas of your life, so that you can enter the ‘second-half’ of your adulthood in the right way for you.
<p class=”MsoNormalCxSpMiddle” style=”margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt 36pt;”><span style=”font-size: small;”>
<p class=”MsoNormalCxSpMiddle” style=”margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt 36pt;”><span style=”font-size: small;”>And this is why the menopause support approach gives women the time to consider such a wide range – from how you think, feel, eat, drink, exercise, and which self-help lifestyle changes, natural and orthodox treatments might be right for you.
<p class=”MsoNormalCxSpMiddle” style=”margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt 36pt;”><span style=”font-size: small;”>
<p class=”MsoNormalCxSpMiddle” style=”margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt 36pt;”><span style=”font-size: small;”>
<p class=”MsoNormalCxSpMiddle” style=”margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt 36pt;”><span style=”font-size: small;”>

<span style=”font-family: "Verdana","sans-serif"; and it’s all very exciting talking about the birth of Menopause Support.

I can’t remember life without MSC – even though the ‘light bulb’ moment was only last summer whilst on a walk with my friend Justine – it seems like such a long time ago!

The thing that’s amazed (and touched) me is the enthusiasm and support I’ve had from both women (and men!) when they find out about the venture – they can’t believe that it hasn’t been done before – it seems that it was a gap that really needed filling – so here we are!

This website is still very new and, as I write, not quite finished –
