Hi all

I had a hystorectomy in 2001 and started menopause in 2002 and have had it since. I went on to HRT at the advice of my doctor even though my Mum has had breast cancer and have been on a low dose for about 7 years now. Even with HRT patches I still get hot flushes day and night but not too severe. I also take Menopace, Evening Primrose Oil, Osteocare, Vitamin C which I believe are supposed to help

My blood pressure has started to rise a bit and the doctor wants me to come off HRT. I tried but have put myself back on them as I felt absolutely dreadful. Headaches, severe hot sweats, palpitations, mood swings etc. I put a patch on last night and I already feel a lot better.

I do really need to get off HRT as my doctor has requested, so would like any suggestions anyone can give me to help me

Thanks
Denise

Hi Denise

I’m sorry to hear you’re having a difficult time coming off HRT. Many women suffer like this as their bodies get used to not having the hormonal support anymore. For some women it can take as long as six months. But there are many things you can do to help yourself and make it easier, such as, the rate at which you reduce your HRT dose, improve your diet and start a regular exercise plan. There are also several supplements that women find help too.

If you would like to know more, you might like to consider booking a 1:1 session with one of our Menopause Support Advisors or come on one of our Telephone Workshops.

I hope this helps.

Susanne

I am in the Peri Menopause stage (I think) and get quite hot and restless at night because of it.

I use my Chillow – a slim cooling soft and squishy pad – on my pillow or under my shoulders. Its fantastic. Cools me down and keeps me cool until im asleep. I put my hands under it too as I get really hot hands at night.

I find if I have a few glasses of wine that also makes me hot at night so regreattably am cutting down. But I have to say -at the moment my Chillow is amazing and id thoroughly recommend it.
