Hi Ladies,

I’m wondering if anyone can help with advice on how I can mange my seemingly permanent upset tum and anxiety. I’m 46 and about 6 weeks ago started having panic attacks.
I’ve been having irregular periods and severe breast tenderness (2 weeks out of four!) for a while and my GP thinks that the recent surge in anxiety that I’ve experienced is probably due to peri-menopause. I’m also experiencing a lot of indigestion and stomach ache. My anxiety means I overreact to symptoms and immediately think there is something dreadful wrong, which can bring on the panic, ‘Kalms’ tablets help a bit but I’m still almost constantly worrying. Currently I don’t know whether the stomach upsets are causing the anxiety or the other way round!
I’ve been referred for CBT to help with the anxiety in the longer term and I’m seeing the GP again soon to try and help with the stomach problems, but I wondered if there was anyone out there who had been through the same and could offer any tips?
Best Regards to all

Jennster, I note that noone has replied to your worry. I recently logged on as a newbie with an avalanche of symptoms after 18 months of no periods and thinking it was “all over”!! I have very bad vaginal and urinary tract atrophy, I am seeing a consultant next month, but also have had very bad gastric upset, indigestion, constipation, leading to a double whammy of fatigue and anxiety, as if it wasn’t enough as part of the menopause process anyway! I am told that thinning of the vaginal wall can affect the bowel as they are very close and the bowel can become irritated too, especially as constipation is also a symptom of menopause.

I have found that coffee and chocolate seem to make it worse and if you are sitting at work all day, it compounds the problem. I am just starting, as recommended by a friend, on soya products as they less irritating on the gut, I will let you know!!
